so yeah. something about the fact that eleven cooks, and is canonically very good at it. others tend to like what he makes, even when his choices tend to be kind of weird. wherever there's a stove, sooner or later, eleven will be in front of it, making something to share with those around him. eleven running a restaurant, inventing a new kind of pudding--

he's the first doctor we've ever seen actually cooking, and he does it because he wants to, because even though yeah, he could just generate food with a food machine, it's not as much fun and eating it doesn't feel as satisfying as when he's made it with his own hands. and he does it because he has to, because if food isn't satisfying he literally can't get it down. because no one else can make what he needs, can be relied on to get all the nuances of flavor and texture right so they won't take him by surprise and choke him, even perceive those nuances in the first place. because he needs to be the one to do it or he can't know it's safe.

and of course, fish fingers and custard, the first safe food, the original safe food, and the ultimate safe food, but also more a feeling than a food. because it is and always will be associated with amy. and so, then, it is the feeling of love and acceptance and family and belonging. and the process of preparing it, even if in this case it can be as simple as sticking frozen things in a microwave, is half the point.

Personally, I see the prince being a little bit like Snatcher is currently so I'll say they were neglectful in a way. Not in the 'We literally hate your existence' but rather like 'Oh wow, that's great hun we can talk about it later.' and never speak of the topic again.

They weren't exactly downright evil or anything, just too busy to acknowledge their son's presence unless he achieved a major milestone for them to take the credit for his achievements. The prince is okay with this because he craves any kind of positive attention and desperately doesn't want to be alone. Eventually, they kinda forgot all about him after he was engaged to Vanessa and he forgot about them as he now has someone who wants to give him that love and support he craves.

I feel like they would be sad over his death but move on quickly as they, despite being their son, never really knew him. Saying 'Oh he was just too shy and introverted to speak or write to us often. He just never did want to be around us, he was just an immature boy, you know?' Just making excuses, in general, to shift the blame on him without outright saying it and actually believing they weren't to blame for any of it. There aren't any lines of Snatcher mentioning his parents, not even in the death wish lines, or a letter from them in the manor so this is kinda my HC due to how much he tolerated from Vanessa. For all that he's oblivious to Nanzhu's flirting, Qiushi is actually very sharp in other matters. He doesn't believe Xiong Qi's speech about his organization and is tight-lipped around him, despite having a good previous experience.

If this fic is going to delve into shadow's objectification (and self-objectification🥰) i will be in shambles. I was still not sure but then the chapter name dropped and 😊😈

This is such a cool theme and part of shadow's character that i rarely see explored in fanworks properly. even though we have his whole story in sonic battle revolve around his views on himself and other weapons. Like bro gave a whole ass speech about weapons like himself needing to be destroyed and how their only purpose is obeying and being ordered around by their creator-master-contractor and thought we wouldn't notice. He really has issues. Also having him say all that in front of Sonic and Sonic being jawdropped and trying to comfort him is crazy it's one of their best interactions in canon but its so overlooked😭

If this isn't the case and im just silly then its cool too! then im totally spoiler free and preparing for the plot twists hehe.

I also want to say that your fic is crazy good, it's very gripping and well written. So much thought put into all these scenes and imagery. Since the characters are aged up in the story, many years after such events like SA2, Shadow 2005, Sonic Battle, Forces, etc. etc., the Shadow in the fic has had a long time to fester on these thoughts. They started on board the ARK due to his status there, and have carried on throughout his life in various ways. He's not a super communicative person, and even in his journal he doesn't write down thoughts like this, but I am indeed trying to reference this aspect of his character in Battle with the fic! I'm glad you see the vision as I do frfrfr <3 He's not as angry about it here since years have gone by, but he still has issues he's never properly dealt with. Sonic is not the only one with baggage... Love that you noticed, it makes me smile!
